WHEN OUR EYES DECEIVE US
| DECEMBER 2011
God had a close relationship with Adam and Eve. He
would come down and spend time with them in the cool of
the day, He kept them fed and healthy, and He only had
one requirement: do not eat of the fruit in the middle
of the garden. Why is it what we cannot have looks the
most desirable? Often we know what the word says, but
what we see and what we desire overrides our sense of
right and wrong.
One of
the plagues of our day is that so many people get caught
into a fantasy world of sin and fill their hearts and
minds with junk, then begin to act out what they see and
desire. We cannot allow ourselves to sit and take in
things that are contrary to our spiritual wellbeing. We
will become what we consume.
Many
people know what is right. They know what God said, but
their desires are more important to them than following
God's will. People rebel against God and avoid coming
into His presence because it causes conviction. But
those who refuse to obey, raise another generation who
do not know right from wrong. Satan will always help us
justify our sin. He tries to make a lie out of God's
word, but we cannot get anywhere trying to blame
everyone else. We cannot change anyone, only ourselves.
Looking at the Bible, God gives us example of men who
followed their own desires:
-
ACHAN - He decided to hide some of the spoils
of Babylon in his home. Eventually he lost
everything because he allowed his desire to override
his morals. He brought the sin into his home and his
family died.
-
DAVID - He lied and killed to cover up his
bad decision. His sons were consumed with the lust
and violence that David let into his family.
-
GEHAZI - His descendants bore the mark of his
bad decision
When
you are not walking in obedience to God's Word, you stop
pursuing Him and you start avoiding Him. His presence
will go from being a blessing to being a burden. Death
came to mankind because of sin.
